You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Initially I felt as if they were taking care of everything and they put my mind at ease although on the day of the funeral it was brought to my attention at the cemetery that when my grandfather purchased my mother's plot that he had failed to procure a grave marker. I felt as if this was a detail that should have been shared with me during the planning phase of the funeral, and not the day of the actual funeral, they certainly had no problem suggesting a place to buy a gravestone on the day of, as opposed to the planning phase. Furthermore once the service had concluded I was told that the grounds crew wanted to get the urn into the ground ASAP , it felt like I was being rushed at a time when I only wanted to take my time. I said that I would like to sit a while to say my goodbye to my mother , so the grounds crew came over and placed my mother's urn into the pre dug hole , it was only then that I was able to sit grave side in peace to say my final goodbye. The experience began as a 5 star review but after the actual service I find myself leaving only one star , and that is only so I could share my terrible experience with you. And to add insult to injury the response to this review asks if I'm sure about the experience that I described.....”

“We laid my Dad to rest today, and our experience with Kim and Jim was smooth and seamless from start to finish. They are so gracious, caring and compassionate and are the perfect people to work with when you lose someone special. We felt so comfortable with them throughout the process. “They care and service we received from Kim and Jim Sabella was exceptional! They are very professional and compassionate. Very knowledgeable and new the answers without us having to think of the questions. My family felt very comforted working with Kim and Jim. The military honors was very touching and arranged with out us having to take care of any of the details. Thank you so much for your support during this difficult and emotional time of saying goodbye to our loved one.”
