You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I can’t thank Ms Jenna enough for the incredible care and compassion she showed during such a difficult time. From the very first moment, she was professional, understanding, and respectful, guiding us through every step with grace. The funeral services were handled with the utmost care, and everything went smoothly. It’s clear that she genuinely cares about the families she serves, and I felt supported every step of the way. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a caring, trustworthy service.”

“Ms. Woody cancelled not one, not two, but THREE appointments at the last-minute. She was very apologetic regarding the first two cancellations. I am a reasonable person and understand things can happen outside of our control, particularly for a small business owner. However, Ms. Woody proceeded to ghost me following her third last-minute cancellation, forcing me to pursue other options. Look elsewhere.”

“The worse experience ever trying to lay my father to rest. Do not use Cardinal Funeral and Cremation services unless you want your loved one sitting in a morgue, off site, for a week before they will get the paperwork in order and they will eventually get cremated. After that you will be calling and checking the status how much longer you will have to wait to get the remains back. Then on the day you are scheduled to pick up death certificates and the remains you’ll get crickets for hours because things are not ready. Unless you demand to pick up the remains without death certificates ready you probably will get brushed off onto the next day. The death certificates may or will in my case have misspelled name on it and need to be corrected and re-printed because nobody bothers to quality check and verify what information was submitted upon signing the contract. You will pick up the corrected death certificates with other mistakes on it because upon picking up remains you can’t verify if all the information is correct because they don’t have it on hand and only give you a cemetery certificate in case you want to bury the urn. Then you’ll get notified the death certificates are ready. When you go pick it up, an envelope will be sitting on a table at the front entry with your family name on it at a Dundee funeral home, not even Cardinal. Anyone can just walk in the place because the front door is open and just grab your envelope. Once you review the death certificates, there will be other misspellings. When you text Jenna again telling her there is a problem again with the death certificate this is the response you get “ Hi Eva, I’m sorry we didn’t catch that. I will change it so any death certificates will be correct in the future. But go ahead and use the death certificates you have to handle any of his affairs at this time”. Now I will end up paying out of pocket for their mistakes but I am finished dealing with them and I beg you all, go elsewhere for a peace of your loved one and yourself.”
