You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Why are these grounds not taken care of??? I've requested, spoken with Ben and a grounds keeper and was told they would get a crew from White Chapel there to take care of this almost a month. I DO NOT like the disrespect that is shown to these deceased people. I have 8 family members buried there and this is what it looks like today 5/9 after working almost a month of getting the grounds cleaned up. There is never any trimming around the stones and the grounds are never mowed. I will say there was some clean up done right after I talked with Ben last but now today it looks worse than when I was there previously. I'm going to keep complaining and talking about this until this cemetery is pristine like it should be!! Memorial Day is fast approaching!!! Clean this Cemetery up!!!! Photos taken today 5/9”

“(Sorry for this being long- they did some very unethical things) I bought a plot for my mom, sister and I back in late 2021- had it all paid for and ready to go. One of the guys that helped me with all this told me that they would get the headstone ordered and when I was ready, I could bury my mom and my sister. I didn’t bury them for about two years or so. By the time I went to bury them, Eastlawn had NOT ordered the marker, come to find out. I got a phone call from a girl who doesn’t even work there anymore, saying that I owed more money. Not having been through this before I went and paid another $200. She said they would order the marker and see about expediting it. They did not. I checked on it a number of months later and was told it would arrive in mid -November. They got it in and never called me (by this time it was late December). I called to speak to Andrea (the GM) and asked for to call me back asap. She did NOT! I called up there 3 times asking to speak with her!! I finally threatened legal representation in order to get somewhere. Once I threatened that and called again and told them I’m on way up there I had an answer and an email with a picture of the marker that had been delivered to them back in November and never called. I should have gotten last names on each individual I dealt with to leave right here on this review. I didn’t want to deal with all the stress of this on top of everything else that happened. I wouldn’t use them again for anything. They intensified and added a lot of extra unneeded stress. Thank you Eastlawn for that. Unfortunately, even in vulnerable situations like this one, we still get taken advantage of and can’t get the compassion and support we need to make our lives- just a little bit easier. Just sad 😔 😞 Lastly, I will say the only decent person there was the receptionist that I spoke to was very apologetic for all the trouble. Parker was the receptionist. I was very thankful that Parker was willing to take responsibility and have the humility and compassion to admit the wrongs of the company for which- Parker wasn’t even responsible for. Parker should not have been put in that situation, but ultimately was very kind hearted.”

“Just visited this cemetery for Memorial Day and was disappointed in the lack of upkeep. It had not been mowed or trimmed, sections of the fence were missing, and the trash bins were overflowing. Hazelwood and Maple Park cemeteries in Springfield are maintained much better.”
