You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I was debating on writing a review because I want to remember my grandmas funeral as a peaceful and respectful celebration of life but I am also left feeling disappointed in how terry cunningham funeral home handled part of the situation. First issue seemed as if it was no fault of their own, they bought the business recently and it got transferred into their hands. My grandma always said since I could remember, that she had the arrangements all in order and she wanted her service to take place here and then to be buried next to her husband in her hometown. The funeral home had no records of it and said that “the last owners were messy with their documents” and essentially pushed the blame on them but said they would honor anything if we did happen to find a receipt. Second issue was when it came time to sit there was limited space to work with in order to have a good view of the casket. since we were family, my mother and I decided to stand so we could see the casket and listen to the ceremony. We were asked multiple times by who I believed to be the director with irritation to sit down and we kindly decline as we explained we wanted to be apart of the family and get a good view. Third issue was when he had an attitude again when we didn’t have space to sit with the family, we let everyone go by the casket for one last goodbye as I wanted my personal moment with my grandma as the family usually gets at the end. He was huffing and puffing and genuinely irritated that instead of waiting to be instructed to go up that people started to line up. But he never mentioned that we were to wait. Then as everyone’s heading out and he began to close the doors for the family to say their final goodbyes he didn’t ask but told us he was closing the door and asked us to leave, assuming we weren’t family because we had to tell him twice that we needed to get through because we were family. Rushing all the family out the door shortly after. Every other funeral I’ve attended they asked how you were related and shared their sympathies however i felt none of this from them. I felt that it was inappropriate to assume and I ended up having to tell him multiple times that I was family, explaining How, so I could be included in each event and special Seating (which obviously never happened as stated before because we ended up standing) Then the last straw was the gravesite for me. Our family called us wondering if we were close to the cemetery yet and we were only 10 minutes away. The director with attitude goes “no that’s 30 mins away and WE ARE NOT waiting for them” (it was only 10 mins away so im not sure what they thought but it was unprofessional and inappropriate) once again all while continuing to rush the family through the process. so after driving 2.5 hours to the burial site using the directions we were given. We missed my grandma gravesite prayer and ceremony. I understand everyone has bad days but it’s your job to have compassion and sympathy for the families of those who just lost their loved ones. It was heartbreaking and really hurt that we were only 10mins away. I think they honestly just wanted to get back home because it started to snow. Whatever it may be it was selfish, disrespectful and it robbed us of closure and saying goodbye to grandma. pros: They did an amazing job organizing the arrangements and she looked so beautiful and so much like herself! Her cards had a beautiful poem on it and I know other family members who already established with the home that they were family, and they had great experiences. I really hope it was just a misunderstanding or miscommunication.”
