“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“If it were possible to provide a negative star review, I would. I am standing in a porch at the Tribute Cremation Society in Statesville, waiting to claim the remains of the love of my life. Broken-hearted and devastated my his death, I had a family member drive 500 miles to accompany me. It is now 30 minutes past our agreed appointment. No phone call or message to let me know they would be late, no request to reschedule our appointment, and when I phoned, the answering service said they were unable to get in touch with them-phone calls went to voicemail. At 25 minutes past I received a call to say they were in traffic. This is a morally incomprehensible injustice to my memory of a man who is my all. I do not recommend this company at all!!!”

“If I could give a negative score I absolutely would. If you love your lost loved one don't take them here. On July 23rd my world crashed. That's the day my mother passed away. It's been the longest and still ongoing nightmare that I just can't wake up from. My mother didn't have life insurance and I am literally scraping by with no help from family or friends. COVID took my cleaning business and left me homeless for almost two years. My mom was diagnosed with liver cancer and in 6 months it took her life. I can't afford a the cost of basic cremation let alone any type of service. Luckily after 3 weeks I was able to track down my mom's older sister who reluctantly agreed to pa. I gave the funeral director, Heather her number to make to confirm that she was paying. Heather got back to me and said that yes my mom's sister agreed to pay and she asked me to come in to sign all the paperwork. After which she told me that she'll contact me when she was paid so I can get the ashes. A week goes by and no call so I called Heather and she tells me that she went ahead and cremated my mother but she still wasn't paid. I told her that I'll try to call and see what's going on. I left my mom's sister message after message and told Heather maybe she should try to reach out to her. Now my birthday is today and my mom's is the 24th, I planned a small personal service for the few friends my mom had and myself for today to celebrate our birthdays together like we always did. I called the funeral home again and Heather said she spoke to my mom's sister and and she was still going to take care of everything. At this point I really needed my mom's ashes and by law the funeral home can not hold cremated remains for payment because that is ransom. I called Tribute Cremation Society and told them I really needed my mom's ashes, that Heather had been in contact with the person paying and that since they cremated my mom already I need to pick her up. The lady told me she would have Heather contact me right away. It's been going on two days and Heather still has not returned my calls and nobody can tell me when and where I can pick up the ashes. My birthday is just about over and I had to cancel the service and still no call!!!!”

All of my questions were answered and all of my fears were taken care of. If you need a sensitive caring helping hand, do not hesitate to go to Tribute.”
