You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“On December of 2025 my father passed. I would like to recommend this Funeral Home above all else in Fond du Lac. My direct contact person was Ashley. She is the most efficient, and professionally trained person I have ever met during my time of grief. Chris was also responsive and was incredibly over the phone. I live in North Carolina and had to coordinate an untimely death remotely. Fond du lac is lucky to such a High Caliber business in this community!”

“Lee Uecker helped our family after the tragic passing of our loved one, providing us comfort and care along the way. He had an exceptional understanding of what we wanted and needed while also bringing up ideas that we had not thought of. Everyone was very professional with no lack of compassion.”

“Edit: now that’s it has been a couple months, I can firmly say I’m disgusted with this funeral home. Not only was my family treated poorly, I’ve seen other reviews in the same time frame say the same. On top of that, only positive reviews are getting responses and not a single apology to the families they have hurt / made this process worse. I still carry my grandmother’s prayer card with me. I just wish it didn’t have so many errors to stare at. I recently had my grandmother's funeral there. A lovely woman who would give anyone anything. That being said, the funeral director present when my family arrived for the private hour, Chris, was terrible. My aunt - who had done the majority of the set up and was already pulling her hair out with stress - and I had asked if we could set up her laptop to stream the service to her son currently deployed in Japan (only because their streaming service was down). We were told that everyone HAD to go in together, and that no one could go in ahead of time to set it up. We had to fumble and test the stream while her grieving husband and children were trying to have a moment, completely ruining the alone time that they had. Additionally, the prayer cards that we received had "DO NOT USE!!! SARA!!" printed on the back, and had listed her as already being cremated, even though we were in the room with her in the casket. Clearly a proof of these were never sent to the family to verify, and it was clear they were given to us with the staff knowing they were incorrect. Once Chris left, the funeral director that stayed for the visitation and following service was very friendly, but I unfortunately didn't catch his name. Overall I was very angry with the service and how my family was treated. Katie didn't deserve that. I myself work at a funeral home in Chicago, and we would never dream of treating a family this way.”
