You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Myself and our entire family could not have been more pleased with this entire experience. The death of a loved one is never a pleasant experience but, it is a part of life that we all must go through at some time. Zach was so understanding, patient, kind, and helpful with every step and decision during this process. Any request was met, all questions were thoroughly answered, and he always followed up and double checked to ensure everything was handled to our satisfaction. Any last minute change was "no problem". The professionalism and kindness was far above any I've experienced before. I have no doubts, no regrets, and feel relieved at how my husband's cremation and service went. Sandi Hall”

“We just recently lost our mother. This was hard for our whole family. My stepdad and I went by to prepare for the funeral then he decided he wanted them to also take care of his needs when he passed. They made the whole orders so easy. They worked with us and made her funeral so beautiful. Greg Hall did the service. I was so thankful he was able to do this for my family. Jerry. Brought the papers to us in West Jefferson where they will both be buried, for my stepdad to sign. So all arrangements were taken care Of entirely. The most important thing. My mom’s funeral was here but they both will have Ashelawn Memorial Gardens as their final resting place That was beautiful too. I could have never gotten through all of this had it not been for the entire staff at Hayworth Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall NC. If you are going through this, you will get all the guidance and support you will need with them. Thank you once again to the entire staff for all your help Carolyn Osborne and family”
