You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Losing a loved one is incredibly hard, especially when it is your mother. Planning her funeral was an emotional process. With no set arrangements prior to my mom’s passing, Grand View Funeral Home provided support and comfort throughout this very difficult time. Jason Young and Brent Massie were kind and compassionate with every decision made. They were flexible and understanding of changes throughout the process. Jason gave special attention and detail to a memorial video which included photo slides of my mom. He worked into the early hours of the morning the day of her service editing and cropping the photos. I must admit it was a slow process to provide Jason the photos due to a tragic house fire in April that took the life of my sister and the family photographs. His patience, time worked, and the product he produced is appreciated beyond words. Although I had not arranged it, Grand View and its team also organized my sister’s celebration of life which was lovely. I am so grateful to Jason and Brent for their hard work, flexibility, kindness, and empathy during such an emotional and heartbreaking time. It was a beautiful memorial and a wonderful way to say goodbye one last time. Thank you Grand View.”
