You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I first contacted Bosman Monuments in April to inquire about the cleaning of my grandparents' headstone. I was charged at that time and was told the work would be done by the end of summer. In August I left a voice mail message to follow up on the status of the cleaning, and did not receive a call back. Two weeks later I called again and got through, and was told the work was complete. I stopped out at the cemetery, and my grandparents' headstone had not been cleaned. I emailed them photos of all the dirt on the stone. They replied via email explaining in great detail how to clean the stone myself. I responded that this was the work I had paid them to do. I received another email from Bosman stating they would do a "second" power wash of the stone, and that I would be charged additional fees for anything further. A reputable business would guarantee their work, not build out a gray area where they express they may not be able to accomplish what they've been paid to do, but then also mention additional fees in case the customer would like to request their multiple efforts to do what they should have been able to accomplish in their first visit. If it truly wasn't possible to remove the dirt, then why offer instructions to the customer on how they can try to do it themselves? When they emailed telling me that a "second" wash had been done, they didn't provide any photos as promised, and when I returned to the cemetery, the stone looked exactly the same. They said "due to the age of the stone", it wasn't coming clean, not knowing this stone had already been successfully cleaned by a different monument service for the first time in 2002, or that it was cleaned to satisfaction on the first try in 2002, after twice the amount of years had passed than what it has been since the first cleaning. All around terrible experience dealing with this place. They don't demonstrate any commitment to high standards, have not handled this request professionally, and haven't been honest. Especially considering the sensitive nature of their business, their terrible service, excuses, and uncaring attitude are disgraceful.”

“Ordered a (in stock) headstone last December. They said it would be placed in the spring of 2023 Spring came..left. Summer came & went It's fall Oct 20 & stone has not been place. They also NEVER returned my call inquiring as to why.. What's the hold up. I will drive over to Bosman's on Monday Oct 23rd. Let's pray it's there. I do see a area cleared. But, NOT where my brother was buried. Hmm”

“I called today with many questions. Someone named Gary answered all of them and MANY more I'd never known I needed to ask regarding cemetery rules and regulations. He was so very helpful, even when he'd said that he didn't do what I was asking about. Later, having spoken to the cemetery office (a number Gary had given me), I thought there may be something in my plan, for which I can use Bosman's and so called him back. He was so very courteous.and said he will get back to me with an estimate. Even tho I'm not in a hurry, I'm certain he will do so promptly.”
