You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Darrell and his team were wonderful throughout the planning process, during this most difficult time for our family. Darrell met with us right away to go over everything and let us know what decisions needed to be made and when. We appreciated the responsiveness to our questions as they came up throughout the week. The funeral home is beautiful both inside and outside, and our mother would’ve LOVED the room that her viewing was in! She was as BEAUTIFUL as ever! We’re so thankful to Darrell, Dylan, and the rest of the team at Cleveland Funeral Home for helping us to honor our mother the way she deserved!! Thank you and God bless you all for what you do each and every day! 🙏❤️🙏”

“My father passed away this year and Cleveland Funeral Home took great care with everything during this difficult time. The actual funeral home is simply comfortable. We received many compliments for my father's services. Darrell and his team are top notch. I couldn't imagine a better place for my father's services to be held. Thank you, Cleveland Funeral Home!”

“Cleveland funeral home was less than professional handling the arrangements for my mother's funeral. They failed to list her obituary on their website so that people could leave online condolences. When this was brought to Darrell's attention, he seemed unconcerned with no apologies. The obituary was posted in the Watertown Daily Times and on Newzjunky on 9/14, but not on Cleveland's website until the day of the funeral. We had several people that had wanted to leave online condolences but were unable to do so due to Darrell's negligence. Also, at that time, they listed the funeral service to be held at Christian Life Center in Chaumont; the service was at Christian Life Center in Watertown. How many of our friends showed up in Chaumont and are to embarrassed to admit it ?”
