You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“End of life is always a difficult time. Plans change. People often move. My family member has a relocation benefit w/ her burial plan. I was advised by the KCMO office to contact a funeral/ cemetery of my choice within the Dignity Memorial network. I left a message for Paula Worthy (general manager) on Monday. Today is Friday. No returned call. I called back yesterday (Thursday). I spoke with Yakema (office manager). She stated she would call back w/ important info. Today my calls are being avoided. I called KCMO (hometown) The KCMO office as always is professional. I found another location w/ competent staff who was able to answer my questions quickly & effectively. Dignity Memorial is nationwide. There are participating companies in every state. Be sure to vet the company you're transferring to before making a choice for your loved one. I am grateful my family member is still alive. I am also grateful I found another funeral home/ cemetery location w/ professional/ competent/attentive staff! I will update my review after the transfer is complete. If all goes well, our family will use the funeral home/cemetery I found for our future needs!”

“They will take your money and keep giving 1000 excuses why there is still no marker. I am reporting this. This is a disgrace to "Horis Ward". These new people have taken over and it is a total disgrace...I will be calling the local news paper in Henry co. Enough is enough”

“Upon the passing of our mother Jacquelyn Jackson. I reached Horis A. Ward's Jeremiah Clark who put me in contact with Mrs Chalise Farmer. Warm hearted, they did not take advantage of our vulnerable state but took into consideration our needs wants and desires. The results was a service that we affordable, appreciated,, and memorable to all attending. Thank you Team Horis A. Ward!!”
