You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We used Memorial Mortuaries & Cemeteries - Murray for our mother’s funeral arrangements last week, and from our very first contact, we felt genuinely cared for. We worked closely with Cali, and I truly can’t say enough good about her. She was wonderful. She handled everything — from our initial planning meeting, to helping us dress our mom in her temple clothing, to coordinating the funeral day and graveside service (even though the funeral itself was held at our church in West Jordan). She was calm, organized, compassionate, and so respectful every step of the way. One moment that will always stay with us was when it came time to close the casket. Cali handled it with such tenderness and dignity. That meant more to our family than we can fully express. There was another gentleman who helped and he was exceptional as well. (After all that we’ve been through, my mind isn’t working well so his name slipped my mind- I’m sorry!) The package we chose included some items we personalized ourselves, and they were so helpful and accommodating. So because we didn’t need one of the services paid for, they provided extra laminated bookmarks for our large family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to keep as a memento of our mom. That small detail meant so much. They even provided a microphone to use at the graveside service, which was extremely helpful! Everything went seamlessly during a time when emotions are high and it’s hard to think clearly. We are truly grateful for the care, professionalism, and kindness shown to our family, and we would absolutely recommend them!”

“I was so happy with Memorial and especially Cali, our funeral planner. She was so kind in guiding us through the process of planning and making all the many decisions for my mother’s funeral. She let us do all we wanted to and was a great support when we didn’t know what to do. She answered all our questions quickly and was there every step of the way. We didn’t feel pressured at all to do anything we didn’t want to. There truly wasn’t a time when we didn’t feel supported and because of that everything went so perfectly! My mom looked beautiful in her open casket, Cali did such a good job on her hair & makeup. I know my mom would have loved how she looked. My sisters and I wanted to dress her but when we got there to do it we realized it was more difficult emotionally and physically than we thought it would be. Cali came in and without a disparaging word helped us until we felt more comfortable. During the viewing, funeral service and at the cemetery she was there, in the background quietly and kindly guiding things along to keep it timely. It all turned out beautifully! It’s such a tender and often difficult time when planning a funeral for a loved one, so to have such a wonderful place as Memorial and Cali to help was priceless. Truly everyone we talked to at Memorial was so helpful and kind and their prices were decent. I would recommend anyone to Memorial Mortuaries and Cemeteries.”

“It wasn’t too long ago that my family used Memorial for our grandmother. Sadly I had to use it now for my Baby. Lacey was so amazing in providing the services we wanted during this time. She was kind and thoughtful through the entire process. She was even willing to work on a Sunday for Austin and I to have a witness cremation. I am truly grateful for her services and help.”
