You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Just picked up my mother's remains from this company. While I can say that everyone I spoke with was kind, the service level was deplorable. First, the cost was more than double what I was told when I selected their company. Granted, this was the information provided by the hospice, which was apparently out of date. That said, they only reduced the total by $100. I could've selected to have my mother moved to another facility but of course that would've cost a lot more money. They kind of have you held hostage when that occurs. Second, Their representative, Rick, was very inefficient. He never responded to my emails, and I would always have to call to determine what the status was. There was a delay in getting the death certificates signed off which they failed to follow up on. Additionally, Rick kept asking for information that I had already provided, utilizing the link, he sent me for their website., It has been a month since my mother passed, and I am finally picking up her remains. The death certificates have the wrong address, which could cause problems. Again, all of this is their mistakes. If your loved one has passed, I would recommend reading as many reviews as possible before reaching out to this company, so that you are aware of the process and their lack of competent service at a time of loss.”

“I contacted Crystal Bovaird nearly two years ago when my father's health declined dramatically. She sat down with me and helped me plan so that the major preparations for his funeral and burial (yes, burial) were not left to the last minute. It was evident that she was honest, compassion and respectful of her clients' loved ones. We were blessed to have Dad for 22 months after I first met Crystal and selected Aria. When I contacted her on that awful day last month, she handled everything with the utmost compassion. She made sure all the details were handled and even called just to see how I was doing. Crystal arranged for the most beautiful honor guard service at Dad's grave site. We were all so moved; Dad would have been so proud and honored. I don't know how she does it, but she is so compassionate and attentive to a family's needs during the most emotionally painful time; she is truly a blessing. I highly recommend Aria on Preston Road to anyone in need of this service. Aria and specifically Crystal helped us through some of our darkest days and made it possible for us to honor my father in the way he deserved.”

“A sincere thank you to Able Rodriguez for his professional and caring assistance in administering my father’s funeral. I had the opportunity to talk with another funeral home before choosing Aria Cremation and Funeral Services and the experience could not have been more different. With Aria there was no hard sell for add-on services and pricing was transparent. Abel handled all the details including coordination with the church, national cemetery, and motorcade. He arrived at the church well before the family and his presence freed us from responsibility so we could spend time together and visit with guests. I would highly recommend Aria.”
