You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I should start out by saying that for the last few years I should have made advanced arrangements for my father Juan as he was getting into advanced age and had numerous medical problems. In December 2025 he was admitted to the hospital and the prognosis was not what was expected. At this time I began checking various funeral homes in the area for prices for direct cremation. I also checked Baldwin Brothers Port Charlotte as I was familiar with their location. After comparing prices/services we reached out to Baldwin to begin the process. My husband and I began interacting with Brooke Noreikis and very quickly came to an agreement for direct cremation with a memorial service to be held at a later date at their facility. I must say their contracted price was well below other providers in the area. After my father's passing on Christmas Eve 2025 we notified Baldwin and they handled everything smoothly and professionally. Several weeks later, after the cremation had been completed a memorial service was held at their facility. Again, Brooke was on top of everything obtaining documents, assisting with setting up/tearing down for the memorial service [good sized room with sofas/chairs for all] and obtaining documents to allow the remains to be transported out of the country for interment. Even though everything was last minute, Brooke and Baldwin Brothers were right there providing excellent, professional, compassionate service and I would not hesitate to recommend the Port Charlotte location.”

“After studying other sites and already having a very positive. experience with Baldwin 4 yeas ago when a family member died, I decided finally to bite the bullet and prepare for my own demise with Baldwin after meeting with Amber Cardona. She provided me with the information I needed and spent time with me to make sure I understood everything.. Thank you, Amber, I am now making monthly payments so my children are prepared when the time comes. Barbara M”

“June is an absolute gem when it comes to funeral planning. During the planning of such a delicate and emotional event, she was incredibly compassionate, patient, and thorough, guiding our family with grace and genuine care. We felt truly supported every step of the way, and her attention to detail made all the difference. We’d give her more than five stars if we could. Highly recommend!”
