You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Well, it started off good...Mrs. Dawn was patient, thoughtful and accommodating towards me and my child's father, however once the funeral was over, I made several attempts to speak with her regarding my child, death certificates and other matters. A week later and I've yet to receive a call back, yet they have no problem giving her dad information regarding our child. This is wrong and very disappointing from this place of business.”

“My mom passed away in September and did not leave the family with a lot of financial resources to take care of her funeral. Foster's was not only incredibly helpful and respectful through the entire process- but they were very reasonable in price as well. My extended family is all over the US so I did a lot of the organizing and was always rushing in last minute with updates and items. DeMarco did an AMAZING job on my mom and was really sincere and helpful through the whole process. So was Brian, the owner and operator. Honestly, they are fantastic if you ever have the unfortunate need to plan someone's funeral/memorial, they are the place to go.”

“Foster Funeral & Cremation Service is one of the most outstanding and remarkable places I've ever seen. Dawn expressed care and concern and even helped me with paperwork prior to everything which made the process a bit more simplified when it came time. They express great care, empathy and compassion. I had the chance to look around the Coho location and it is very nice and well put together and spacious. They have a lot of resources to help you out. They are kind and patient and give you plenty of time for whatever you need. They have a lot of family that works for them also so when my time comes, I will look to Foster Care & Cremation Services. Thank You for everything you have done, and will continue to help me with. I am forever blessed for our paths crossing!”
