You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My daughters and I recently visited Forest Meadows Funeral Home & Cemeteries and were so impressed by the outstanding customer service provided by Mr. Johnny Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. He answered all of our questions thoroughly and never made us feel rushed. He went above and beyond to explain everything in detail, ensuring we fully understood each part of the process. The level of service we received was truly exceptional—far superior to anything we have experienced elsewhere. Quality service like this is rare to find nowadays. Thank you, Mr. Johnny Mitchell, for making our visit so pleasant and reassuring. We genuinely appreciate you!”

“This was one of the worst cases of professionalism I have ever experienced. The staff appears to be caring, but unfortunately, they are not truthful and do not meet deadlines. We were lied to many times. It took us over a month to get the death certificate. We were told they were mailed, only to find out later they were not. Had to send them again and because they were sent using regular USPS, they arrived bent and dirty. The cemetery is in terrible shape with weeds and ant beds vs grass. We contacted the cemetery over 2 years ago regarding the condition of the granite bench my father’s ashes are in. It is still not appropriately cleaned after having been promised it would be cleaned before we put my moms’ ashes in it. We were also told there would be working bathrooms available for the service. Two days before the service I was notified that they were not available due to a busted pipe and no provision on site was made available. They said we could use the funeral home bathrooms several miles away and that no one would be there because there were no funerals that day. Wrong – there several that day. They also said there would be a nice white table available at the grave site to display a picture and other items. It was a tiny brown bench. No one from the funeral home or cemetery was at the site except for the very nice man that had the responsibility to close the bench after the service. He was the only bright spot in the entire process. I would not recommend this funeral home and cemetery to anyone that wants compassionate, timely and truthful communication as they deal with the death of a loved one.”

“Hello, Friends, Nice to hear from you again. You served us well. From the moment Scott & I met at an information session, and shortly before we needed your services, I knew we had a great friend in Scott, whom I could trust. I was right. At the moment of my need for Forest Meadows to mobilize, everyone was efficient, positive, and respectful. Very early on a Saturday morning, as soon as I was ready, a vehicle was sent. John & Sean seamlessly removed the body of my spouse of 56 years to a waiting black Suburban with an after-market muffler, which my husband would have loved. On Sunday, Scott & Rebecca spent as long as needed to guide me & several of our grown children through the remaining process. There were so many details that needed to be addressed immediately (that I was too ill & preoccupied with my husband's care to set up ahead of time), but Scott & Rebecca handled them and guided us through the unknown. As a new widow in shock, I appreciated Forest Meadows being there for every detail we added or wanted to change. The fresh, new environment of Forest Meadows funeral home where we conducted our business was a serene sanctuary with plenty of parking near front doors. No matter what day of the week or time of day we needed them before the funeral, we were accommodated. Scott was able to secure an Air Force Honor Guard to perform a Full Honors Military burial at graveside. Scott was on-site to attend to every detail. The Family and I were extremely pleased that the solemn ceremony honored our loved one's final wishes. Thank you from the bottom of our grateful hearts. Mary Q & Vince Carnes Family”
