You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“During the most unbearable time of my life, this funeral home truly became a place of comfort and support. From the very beginning, everyone was incredibly professional, compassionate, and attentive. I never felt alone. I truly felt like I had someone to lean on every step of the way. Todd took exceptional care of me, and the entire team (Mike, Kara, Eugen, JD, Jennifer, Kevin, and Denise) was amazing from start to finish. They handled everything with such grace and respect, and they created a beautiful, meaningful service for my husband. I am forever grateful for the care, patience, and kindness they showed my family and me. If you are looking for a place that will guide you through the most difficult moments with compassion and professionalism, this is truly the best place you could choose.”

“Very disappointed. Very little information provided up front. Had to call back several times to ask questions about basic logistics, which the receptionist ended up answering for me most of the time; the director was very hands off. I did not feel like we had any help unless we specifically asked for something. You are essentially just paying for a room rental if you choose to have your memorial service here. I could have gotten the same amenities in renting a room from my local community center and it would have been much cheaper. They are also behind the times - no streaming of the service for long distance or ill relatives, and we had to bring our own laptop to show a picture slideshow. We couldn’t run the slideshow in the chapel since again, no one was there to provide that info and we needed to start the service. There was music playing in the chapel and family members had to track down someone to turn it off. They had the start time listed incorrectly on the display screen when guests came in as the start of the rental period rather than the start of the service so guests thought they were late when they arrived. The coffee pots were dirty when we were setting up the celebration room for the reception. Guests had to go into the kitchen to get coffee from the coffee maker rather than having it set up in the room itself. Although the staff was pleasant, I would not recommend this place. Planning a memorial service and dealing with grief is already challenging enough. There are other funeral homes that will make sure you have all the info you need and details are taken care of so that you aren’t left to do it all alone.”

“JD Ralph is awesome. He was the reason I chose this funeral home after a conversation in advance of my wife’s death. This place was first class, from the time they came to my home the night of her passing until everything was finished. Everything was first class and for me it was the way he treated me and the compassion he showed in a truly difficult and devastating time for me and my family. Thank you JD!!”
