You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My dad was Jerry Wayne Casida (September 5, 1945 - November 2, 2011), and this review is highly overdue! I want to thank ET Funeral Home for how they handled my dad's passing. I came back to Texas from out of state, and they guided me and my family through the entire process. Although I cannot say that is was a pleasant experience given the circumstances, I can say that this is a first class operation. Sincerely, Ken Casida”

“I’m pleased to see such positive reviews, and glad you had such positive experiences. Normally I wouldn’t leave a review for negative reasons but this time I am. Recently dealt with East Texas funeral home after a death in the family. The crew that picked up the family were very professional and compassionate, and forthcoming with what we should expect from the funeral home. This was comforting during a time of mourning and stress. We met with director, Neal, a couple days later. He was unprofessional and was more interested in talking about himself. For example, I can tell you about his marital status, his child, his band, etc… he showed little interest in knowing about our family member. The following Monday I dropped off the check for our services, and was appalled by the manner in which they so aggressively took it and recorded it. I would have felt better feeding a starving wild animal a steak. The process of transporting our family member to another state for burial was confusing and unknown for us. We contacted Neal a couple times during this process and would have to wait for return calls, as he was rarely available. We had to deal with another funeral home in a different state which went very smoothly. They also advised that they were having difficulty getting in contact with Neal. They were readily available and willing to assist us and answer any questions or concerns we had about the process. We were able to get our family member buried by her family a couple weeks later, after what I feel like was way more effort than should have been required. Bottom line, I would recommend you go anywhere else but East Texas funeral home. Hopefully you can have a good, compassionate experience.”

“Neal was such a pleasure in dealing with. He ensured that my loved one would be taken care of and handled with care. Aunt Wanda was so compassionate and so sweet. I wouldn’t have asked for a more loving family. Thank you East Texas Funeral Home.”
