You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Professionalism Paired with Compassion After losing my dad, we were stepping into one of the hardest seasons of our lives. I had never experienced a loss this close before, nor had I ever worked with a funeral home, so we were navigating completely new territory. From the moment my dad entered hospice, through the cremation, the service, and even coordinating with Fort Snelling for his military honors, Colby was a true professional. He guided us through every decision with patience and clarity, never rushing us and always making sure we felt supported. He was communicative and dependable, responding to emails nights and weekends and consistently going above and beyond. He became a steady partner in the process, giving us one less thing to worry about during an incredibly overwhelming time. That care and steadiness meant especially so much to my mom. In a season that could have felt unbearable, their integrity and genuine compassion made it manageable. We are deeply grateful for how they showed up for our family. I would wholeheartedly recommend Roberts Family Funeral Home to anyone navigating a loss.”

“I can’t say enough wonderful things about Roberts Family Funeral Home in Forest Lake. Kelly was absolutely amazing to work with—professional, compassionate, and truly committed to taking care of every detail seamlessly during such a difficult time for our family. The venue itself is beautiful: clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated. Many people who attended my dad’s service commented on how nice and well-organized everything was. What truly sets Kelly apart, though, is how far he goes for the families he serves. We ran into an issue with the church regarding my dad’s burial—they were not upfront about whether he could be buried with his brother and tried to sell me a different plot at a higher cost. When I told Kelly what had happened, he immediately stepped in and said he didn’t feel we were given accurate information. He offered to call on our behalf, and because of his efforts, he was able to secure exactly what our family hoped for: my dad being laid to rest with his brother. We even received a refund for the difference in cost. Kelly and the entire staff went above and beyond in every way. Their honesty, integrity, and genuine care made an incredibly hard time a little easier. I highly, highly recommend Roberts Family Funeral Home.”

“DO NOT GO HERE! UPDATE!!!!!!! I wrote a review of my experience of Roberts Funeral Home immediately after my brother’s funeral that was held on October 25th, 2025. I was contacted by Kelly of Roberts Funeral Home regarding my review shortly after posting. He did take responsibility for his actions saying that he should have given the cards to the highest ranking next of kin but he did not. He also stated he would try and make things right but asked me to take down the post immediately. I was respectful enough to granted his request and put my faith and trust in Kelly once again. It has been a full week and still no results. No cards have been returned nor has the guest book. This is NOT a miscommunication senecio here, My mother is refusing to send the cards and the guestbook to my niece who is the LEGAL HIGHEST RANKING NEXT OF KIN. This has been extremely traumatic to my brother’s children (age 20 and age 12) at a time when they are already faced with the impossible reality that they will never see their father again. Who steals from their dead son’s children, her grandchildren? The end result of having the funeral at Roberts Funeral home = Roberts Funeral Home is paid in full My dead brother’s children get everything taken away from them because Roberts Funeral Home could not take the time to do their job correctly. This is no way to treat people especially at a time like this! They get nothing but more heartache. They are not even able to thank all of the people who came out to support them during this unbearable time. Robert’s Funeral Home mission statement: . “Our mission is to provide each family with comfort and peace of mind by serving them with genuine care and respect.” No comfort, no peace of mind and certainty no genuine care or respect was given to my brothers next of kin. I wish we would have went someplace else. We would still have pain from our loss, we understand that. All the additional traumatizing things that have happened, who would want that? From the 1st day of planning his funeral until weeks after, has been a nightmare. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Original Post: Both my father (2019) and my brother’s (2025) services were held here at Robert’s funeral home. 6 years apart. This place was referred to us my mother. My mother and Kelly are old bar buddies. Come to find out that not only did Kelly and Robert’s funeral home grossly overcharge us for my fathers service (1st on held at Robert’s funeral home in 2019) he actually tried to get more money out of us at the beginning of the planning for my brothers service. However no invoices were mailed out to us nor any phone calls made informing us of any outstanding balance in the past 6 years. During my brother’s funeral (October 25th 2025) once the funeral had ended Kelly handed all of the funeral cards NOT to the next of kin but instead to our sorry excuse for a mother. Deanne, the lady that collected stories about my brother to tell at the service refused to let my niece hear any of the stories she collected prior to the service. In fact Deanne arrived to the event moments before it began just so she wouldn’t have to share any information she was about to tell everyone in attendance. When I called around to other funeral home to ask if this was a normal thing, they replied “absolutely not”. Needless to say, none of the stories that she told that evening were true at all.”
