You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I had an outstanding experience with the Neptune Society when my husband passed. They were so caring and compassionate to me and my family. I had made prearrangements and everything was carried through better than I could have hoped for. My experience was with the office in Lady Lake, Florida and Don Knop and staff were wonderful. My husband's cremains were so tastefully presented to me, on a raised stand with flowers and candles, that I was deeply touched. Judy saw to my comfort each time I had occasion to be in the office. All my questions were thoughtfully and professionally answered. I would definitely recommend anyone needing this type of service reach out to Don and staff. You will not be disappointed.”

“Searching for a place for mom after she passed was harder than I thought. We knew it would be cremation but calling the 7 places that had good reviews was a process. When I called Neptune, I got a knowledgeable person who I honestly told that he was the first person I called ….and he gave me good advice of what to look for in a mortuary and why. Best.advice! I ended up calling 4 more places and had less than a great experience. I called Neptune again because the person who contacted me gave me his direct phone number so I could circle back if I wanted to. Neptune was contacted by mom’s Hospice on Sunday morning, had someone to pick up mom shortly after, Neptune worked with Hospice so well. I was contacted by Neptune’s funeral director and the whole process worked seamlessly. Honestly, the conversation seemed to be a blur for my memory but the follow up email from Don helped me recall important information. The death certificates were timely. When I went to pick up mom’s ashes, I met with another staff member who was compassionate, empathetic and the presentation of mom’s ashes was a lovely moment. I would recommend Neptune being your first call and then if you want to call other places, you have already contacted the best and your final choice of Neptune will be confirmed.”
