You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I lost my son unexpectedly last week. We live out of state, when the medical examiner referred us to Castiglia's it was a beautiful blessing. Not only did they make us feel comfortable. They also didn't pressure us. We were handled by not only the best knowledgeable business professionals. We felt like they treated us like family. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I had to plan a funeral. But it was the 1st time I felt like someone actually cared. They are honest and straightforward. Charles and Frank and Melissa handled everything perfectly. Including, our cousin Jesse a couple days before my son Mark. They seen us during off hours due to our traveling in at odd times. They never made me feel like I was bothering them. Like I said I had plenty of experience with funeral homes. In my opinion and my family's opinion. Castiglia is the best in western New York..A big thank you to Castiglia family Funeral home. ON BEHALF OF Cramer's, Wolfe's and Banas' WE all appreciate you AND are Forever grateful . 'family of Mark Banas”

“Recently well in 2016 I was diagnosed with throat cancer and end stage renal failure due to a birth defect I found out about in 1977. Before that my twin sister Sara passed away. I couldn't come up with the 545 dollars for her cremation. I was bringing up a toddler and I couldn't come up with the 545 balance but instead of sending me a bill Mr Castiglia refused to set up a payment plan for my own cremation. He cremated my brother my mother my father and aunt and uncle.,and buried my cousin who was struck by lightning. I offered a payment plan and he was on my Facebook but anytime I made a comment he was rude and degrading”

“Charles Castigila & his staff provided us with an exceptional memorial for our recent family member. They made themselves available for all our concerns, listened & came through on all wishes. Beautiful facility.”
