You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My experience was horrific with this funeral home and my mother's funeral. To start Miles never put the obituary in the paper as asked. I had to follow up and make sure it happened. As for the actual funeral...I had requested a memory jar in place of the sign in book. Dan decided that was not appropriate and used a tablet from the memory jar for people to sign in. I didn't get one memory from anyone who attended and no one even saw the jar. The pastor, Dave Kreider, relatives of Miles, was a joke. He talked more about the length of time and traffic he encountered on his way and made jokes about he was the same age as my mom and thankfully he's still alive. Everyone of the guests have messaged me about this. Last, Dan threw the flowers down at the grave site with the shovel in plain view. The whole thing was a disgrace that can not be fixed. I will also be contacting the state board of funeral directors. After my experience I have found many people who have had the same experience. There was no compassion and when I spoke to Matt about it he brushed it off with a sorry we missed the mark. They were not in the ballpark. Please, choose another funeral home and spare yourself more heartbreak in a very difficult time. They lack compassion and common decency.”

“If you are looking for a place that will honor your loved ones and treat the family's with kindness and understanding, this is NOT the place to go. Absolutely dumpster fire working with the team. Obituary that was provided by the funeral home had absolutely no information about the deceased, even though we had a meeting with them about what information we would liked included. What little information they did put in was wrong and misspelled, leaving us to have to re write the entire thing. During said meeting, the director was very blunt and cold, rushed us along, and genuinely seemed like he was just there for the paycheck. They did a terrible job with the embalming to the point we couldn't even have an open casket. After the funeral when picking up the remains there was a lady who literally ARGUED that we had only asked for 2 containers for the remains, when we had asked for three. She checks the paperwork, and guess what? We had asked for three. No sorry, nothing. Again, after YELLING at us that we were wrong. I'm am absolutely devastated at the treatment we received here. You leave your loved ones at a funeral home expecting them to at least be treated like they matter. Straddling did not. Do yourself a favor, and find a team who will actually take care of your loved one.”

“We will never forget the kindness this funeral home bestowed to us during our loss. Dan went way beyond in our experience... He did more than "just his job" he was professional, yet we felt like we were working with someone who treated us as friends he cared truly about. Thank you Stradling Funeral Home. You were God sent.”
