You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I was hesitant to use Serenity after reading some of the reviews but I am glad that I chose them for my mom’s final arrangements but after the first call to obtain information I knew Serenity was the right choice. Adrian and another gentleman arrived to pick her up, as she had passed at home, Adrian offered to pray with my sister, my son and me. I liked that he asked as not everyone would have wanted to pray. My son is neurodivergent, I called him in to have a moment with his Gamma. Adrian and the gentleman walked out and allowed him to have a private moment. They didn’t rush him at all. We did direct cremation with only Military Honors service as my mom didn’t want anything else. Adrian and his staff were very kind and helpful every step of the way. He was quick to answer/return any calls and answer any questions that I may have had. I feel like they went above and beyond for my mom. I am forever grateful, as this was the hardest thing I ever had to deal with in my life. I thank Community Healthcare of Hospice and Mary Herrera for recommending Serenity. I would recommend Serenity to any family needing to make final arrangements for their loved one. May the Lord bless you from Zion, he who is the Maker of heaven and earth Psalm 134:3”

“First time using Serenity, normally McDowell funeral home. Serenity was not professional and did not appear to know much about burial at a National cemetery. Gave false info regarding family members being able to attend and was told would have to watch from a distance. That was false. After very descriptive information provided of size of spray wanted, showed up to viewing and was a small spray. At burial site, he sat in car and did not address the immediate family and no scripture, prayer… nothing. No suit jackets on at service. Tried to tell the family who should be planning the funeral although he was told by daughter who to listen to. He had no right to try to change that decision. Serenity didn’t make planning easy on the family at all. It ran so much smoother at McDowell. You live and you learn… go with what you know. Sitting in car at burial the entire time And leaving the casket spray at the church after the service put the icing on the cake. NEVER saw that before, had to call Adrain and ask why left spray.. blamed on having to call the cemetery…I was thinking why??. It goes under ground!! Lots to learn. What funeral home doesn’t have a general idea of how long before receive death certificates??? He didn’t know that either. “ don’t know will call when receive???” How long has serenity been in business? Seems like just opened and trying to figure things out. Never can get a straight answer. Never use again.”

“This is the 3rd funeral I’ve had within a year but the 1st time using Serenity. I must say from past experience with funeral homes in Dallas and Fort Worth this was the best experience I’ve ever had. 1st impression my aunt called and the daughter answered and my aunt immediately got a vibe that she was sweet and just a good person. So I then called and felt the same thing after 1 conversation over the phone. They were accommodating and met with me near a location that worked for me best so I didn’t have to drive. Adrian was amazing. He listened to me and my daughter for what our idea was and he didn’t immediately talk about number even though let be honest, it’s a business and that’s important. But he listened to us and assured us they can be accommodating. He made my kids laugh and made the process not as painful as all the other funeral homes that I have worked with. Once he gave us a set price he didn’t go back and change it even after we made changes. Our obituary was perfect, they even upgraded the size to make sure it was perfect without charging extra. Adrian’s beautiful wife, was so pleasant and warm, I just absolutely love her!! The funeral, the location, everything about our services has been nothing but the best. Not one complaint. I absolutely love this family and they really do care. They are genuinely good people who are in this business because of the love to help people… nothing more. You can’t go wrong with them and I will forever be thankful for Serenity!!!”
