You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My dad and I had to plan my sister's service. They were kind and very helpful and walked us through the whole process. We different people help us through the process which was a bit frustrating, but they made efforts to make sure we were well taken care of. From Christina and Kelly who helped with all the plans to Roberta who was great facilitator of the actual service. She was eager to help and always there when I had a question. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars are the sheer costs of laying a loved one to rest. Another reason not die, one cant really afford to. I jest, it is expensive everywhere. I wish there were more alternatives. All that said, I do recommend Lakewood Memorial Park and Funeral home. My previous experience with them was decades ago when we had a stillborn infant daughter, Lakewood was a blessing.”

“10 Star Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lakewood Funeral Home is truly a beautiful, peaceful location — but what makes it unforgettable is the people. Gabby in particular is an absolute ROCKSTAR. Her professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail stood out like a light in the darkness. She went above and beyond every step of the way, making a tough time feel a little more bearable. If anyone deserves recognition, it’s her. Gabby is a rare gem with military precision— PROMOTE HER IMMEDIATELY!!! 💐🔥🤟🏾💯🤝🏽”

“As soon as our family buried our son at Lakewood Memorial Park in early 2023, we started having problems. First problem was when I ordered the plaque in February and was told 3 different times over the next 4 months that the progress on the plaque was coming along great and it would be completed and set in the ground in May. It never arrived and after several calls to Lakewood, I finally was told 2 months later that the plaque was never ordered. It ended up taking over a dozen phone calls and 11 months to receive a grave plaque that should have taken 2-3 months. They placed the plaque when it was raining and the ground soft and muddy. One side of the plaque sank in the mud and the employees left it this way. I had to contact Dignity, Lakewood and a manager to get it set in the ground again. The employees once again placed it during a hard rain and in the mud again. It sank to one side but not as bad as the first time. All the grave stones around ours are set straight and level. Almost immediately after, I started noticing whenever we put flowers in the vase, they would be removed the following day by the grounds crew. They would remove the flowers, throw them away, put the vase down and then drive over my son's grave stone, leaving tire marks from the riding lawn mower. I went to the office, thinking I would find help but I did not. To date, I have met with 3 employees, 4 times and the head of the grounds crew, once. I have caught the guys driving over my son's grave, as well as other grave stones in the park and they leave black tire tracks or mud tracks. I have taken pictures and described what I have seen with my own eyes. Today, there were back tire marks that I had to clean off and the tracks went into the mud next to the plaque. For a year now there has been squirrel poop and ants that I also have to clean off. There is a large squirrel hole right next to my son's plaque. I have been told, by the employees, that they can do nothing about any of my concerns because they need to catch the grounds crew in the act and can't take my word these things are happening. I've been told the grounds crew are not employees of Lakewood Memorial, so nothing can be done and it's my word against theirs. This is why they don't believe me. Even though the grounds crew is not employed by Lakewood, they still have to take their word over mine because Lakewood hired them to do the landscaping. Basically, this is all my imagination and no matter how many pictures I take, they want a video of a tire belonging to one of the lawn mowers, moving over my son's grave. They also will not give me their lawn mowing schedule. If they're not driving over Graves then why do they care if I come watch. The biggest mistake we made is burying our son st Lakewood. They have also damaged his plaque from driving over it and refused to replace it, why? Because it's all my imagination. This will most likely end in a legal battle but I want people to be able to choose accordingly when looking for a Memorial park for a loved one. Sadly, our family has had a horrible experience.”
