You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Never in a million years did my family think we would be burying the glue of the family, my mother. Bourque Smith and Woodard made the graveyard process for her final resting place so easy for us. Everything was done online, we didn’t have to go in at all. They provided great communication through phone and email. All questions were answered promptly. The headstone and granite we picked for my mother is beautiful. The headstone is 3ft by 3ft beautiful and tall, it can be seen from the highway, it’s an eye catcher, just like she was. The granite on top is 4ft by 4ft. My mother was cremated and we buried her ashes that’s why the granite is that size. The payment option was easy as well and done online. Half was due when ready to order and the other half due before delivery and set up. If ever you have to take this road that me and my family had to take I high recommend you contact them for your gravesite service, you won’t regret it.”

“My daughter’s headstone is nearly three years old. Ive called multiple times in the last year to ask them to come fix my daughter’s loose vase and ask about the discoloration on the stone. They never came. Now her headstone is also loose. If anyone wanted to, they could steal both or just knock them over. I’m afraid to put flowers in her vase because the wind is so bad, I don’t want to make it too top heavy and have it fall. When I called, I even asked what I could use to glue it back down, the lady told me not to worry that they would do it. When I asked About the color of the stone and it turning dark and how to clean it, she said they would look at it. But since no one has gone out to fix it, they also haven’t looked at it. If you are considering this company, please consider this review. They were great to work with initially, however after the stone is set they have not cared enough to help us after saying they would take a look.”
