You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Staff was extremely nice. Director explained the process and services very well. Did not try to push or add “extra” services etc on the bill that we wouldn’t need. Our family felt very comfortable with the staff during this hard time burying my brother n law.”

“I wouldn’t wish what my family went through with House of Paradise Funeral Home on anyone. We brought my mother there on Thursday, August 28th, 2025, and from the very beginning, we were misled and lied to. We were told that if we paid the balance by that Thursday, my mother would be cremated the following week and we’d receive her ashes shortly after. They also promised to remove a ring from her finger and clip locks of her hair as keepsakes — simple, sentimental requests that they agreed to fulfill. Not only did they fail to do either of those things, but they also held my mother’s body for over a month. Despite repeatedly assuring us that she had already been sent to the crematorium, we later found out she wasn’t sent until September 26th — nearly a month later. We didn’t receive her ashes until September 29th, after weeks of being lied to and strung along. To make matters worse, they published her date of death incorrectly in her obituary and then tried to shift blame onto the coroner, claiming he had written it wrong. We confirmed that it was House of Paradise who had made the mistake. The level of dishonesty and incompetence is absolutely staggering. When my sister went to finally pick up my mother’s ashes, the staff member was rude, dismissive, and completely lacking in empathy — she wouldn’t even let my sister inside the building, forcing her to wait outside while she handed off the urn like it was an inconvenience. This entire ordeal has caused our family immeasurable pain and distress. We trusted them with one of the most sacred responsibilities imaginable, and they failed us on every possible level — ethically, professionally, and morally. We’ve since contacted our attorney and have begun the process of pursuing a loss of sepulcher case due to the blatant mishandling and emotional harm this business has caused. House of Paradise Funeral Home is an absolute disgrace. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor — take your business elsewhere. They will only make your grief worse.”
