“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Golden Gate Funeral Home took care and prepare our mom‘s for her final journey. The process was difficult however, the staff put us at ease and did a beautiful job. We sat down with other funeral homes in the area but Golden Gate’s didn’t pressure us into getting more then we needed. They understood that we had a budget and helped us get as close to our budget as possible. Funerals can be expensive but over all we came away feeling like we were not taken advantage of during our time of mourning. When our mom passed they sent out two gentleman to pick up our mom. The gentlemen who came out were very professional. They spent a little time explaining how everything was going to move forward. The guys again were fantastic. Once our mom’s funeral took place, we were extremely happy and gratified with the presentation of our mom. We were concerned with how she would look in the casket after being in bed for three years due to her condition. Her body was stiff due to non movement. We spoke Crystal Brown-Black and a funeral director about this situation. They reassured us that they would do the best in regards to helping with the situation. After seeing her my Siblings and I were exceedingly happy with how they handled everything. So many people said she looked beautiful. It was nice to deal with a group people that really cared. Thanks again to everyone at Golden Gate Funeral Home. Thank you for being both professional and caring at the same time. 🙏🏾”
