You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. My mother passed last summer unexpectedly and in a panic my family contacted them for help. They were incredibly unprofessional and violated my mother’s body with their remarks. I was informed how their “help” was mocking my mother’s weight and making jokes the entire time she was being removed from the home. A woman who weighed 230 lbs. Maybe hire people who aren’t weak? Once she arrived at Reeds we were then handed a dozen different quotes and told she needed to be finished by the end of the week. We were given 3 days to decide how to lay my mother to rest. I called around and found another very professional funeral home called “Oser Funeral Home” and Andrew and his staff were phenomenal. I hope Reeds goes out of business and never has the chance to defile another human being in their most vulnerable state.”

“Just had a funeral service for my Grandmother , Monday June 9th I was shocked how things have changed in the last 17 months since we had my mother’s funeral! My grandmother was not done up makeup wise like my mother and other family members have been done, she looked nothing like the picture we gave , they saw we were upset she wasn’t done up so they slapped on some eyebrows right in-front of me that were not even matching her hair it was a color that was orangey brown! I am really disappointed and the woman who did the funeral and viewing wasn’t much help . I felt although she felt aggravated and inconvenienced that we even brought it up! I will be reconsidering the next time we need to have a funeral. Really disappointed and shocked .”

“I was so disappointed with the service we received from Jacqueline. I had to call for every piece of information regarding my Mom’s cremation, service and times and when it’s your Mom this can cause undue stress. There was literally no communication unless I called her on every step which spanned a month. We have always used Reed in the past, 1977, 1979, 2015 & now 2022 and I will never use Reed again. Ever.”
