You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I was here on Sunday 1/25/2026 visiting my loved ones and also to clean their gravesite but to my surprise it had already been completely cleaned. I mean COMPLETELY! As you can see on these pictures, I had previously, since late October put a metal white cross in the marbled concrete flower vase that was purchased years ago. Thinking since the cross is placed in the flower vase there won’t be any issues or it won’t be removed, but it was. I find it very disrespectful that not only was the cross removed but they actually removed the whole entire cemented marble vase holder (don’t know the exact name for it) . I just don’t understand why, if it’s not permitted why can’t anyone from SouthLawn reach out, simply communicate to family members . I mean they do have information such as names and phone numbers. My husband do go yesterday and he approached a few maintenance men there and mentioned to them and asked where was the cross, they of course said they didn’t know anything but he did find it inside a storage room along with so many other beautiful big statues of saints such as San Judas that family members I’m certain of pay lots of money for. Don’t understand why when cleaning up maintenance people can’t just make notes of things like this situation, take it to the office and someone from there can make a call to family, I’m positive if they would have called us we would have removed it ourselves. My mother went yesterday morning and spoke to someone about this and she tell her that she herself had no knowledge of this and that she didn’t see why there was an issue of the cross being removed if it was inside the vase holder, she tell my mother that they will replace it within 2-3 weeks, we shall wait and see if they will now replace the concrete marble flower vase holder. Communication is key!”

“South Lawn Cemetery is a beautiful final stop for your loved one. Angelica was our counselor and she was absolutely amazing. She essentially held our hand through the process and was very kind an extremely patient with us while we made our decisions. We are very thankful for her. With her help we found the perfect place for my mother’s final resting place. Our family feels very blessed to have gotten to work with Angelica as well as finding such a beautiful location for my mother. We are truly grateful.”

“Today we visited the cemetery from NW Indiana, to pay respects to my grandmother and grandfather. They were buried in 1968 and 1969. I was young and have never been to their gravesite. We were unfamiliar with the layout of the grounds, so Jazmine offered to accompany us and find their gravesite. She had no problem locating the plot. I was initially saddened to find they did not have a headstone or grave marker. I asked if there were flowers I could purchase to lay on their site. Jazmine offered to go back to the office and brought a lovely artificial bouquet with a vase to set on their site as their marker. I was so taken by her compassion and commitment to service. I told her she had to be an angel sent from above by my grandparents. What a wonderful individual!! Truly an angel! I will always be indebted to her for her assistance and amazing compassion. Thank you immensely, Jazmine! Dorothy and on behalf of my sisters and brother ❤️”
