ACA Open Enrollment 2027: Dates and a Simple Checklist
By MedaSynq Insurance Services · Updated · 3 min read
For states using HealthCare.gov, 2027 Open Enrollment runs November 1, 2026, through January 15, 2027. Enroll by December 15 for coverage generally starting January 1. Selections made December 16 through January 15 generally start February 1. Eligibility and your first premium payment still matter.

Choose your deadline before comparing plans
The enrollment season happens mainly in 2026, but the coverage you are choosing is for 2027. Decide when you need coverage to start, then work backward from that date. If your current coverage ends December 31, the December 15 selection deadline is the important one to plan around.
These are HealthCare.gov dates. A state that operates its own Marketplace may have different deadlines or procedures. Use HealthCare.gov's state Marketplace finder to confirm where to apply and check that Marketplace's current calendar. An employer's benefits enrollment window is a separate schedule.
| HealthCare.gov milestone | Date |
|---|---|
| 2027 Open Enrollment begins | November 1, 2026 |
| Select coverage generally starting January 1 | By December 15, 2026 |
| Final Open Enrollment selection deadline | January 15, 2027 |
| Later selections generally start coverage | February 1, 2027 |
Prepare once, then compare with a clear checklist
Set aside your household and income information before beginning an application. Use an estimate for the year you want coverage, accounting for changes you expect in work or household income. Last year's earnings alone may not describe the year ahead.
Separately, make a short list of the care you want to check. Having the same list beside you for each plan makes comparison easier and keeps you from choosing solely by the monthly payment. You do not need to finish a long reading list before starting.
- Household members needing coverage and their current insurance information.
- Expected annual household income and information about available employer coverage.
- Your doctors, preferred hospitals, and exact prescription names and doses.
- The coverage start date you need and a comfortable monthly premium range.
Review the coming year's coverage
Compare the actual plan documents for the year you are enrolling in. Review your doctors and medications alongside premiums, deductibles, and what you pay when receiving care. Keep a note of the plan name and year so you can return to the same option rather than relying on a similar name.
MedaSynq's health insurance page starts the online comparison process where available. State Marketplace requirements, enrollment eligibility, carrier availability, or a request for additional information can affect the next step. Online browsing is not a guarantee that every application can be completed through our site.
Finish the application and confirm the start date
Read your eligibility notice and respond to any document requests by their stated deadlines. Selecting a plan is not the same as having active insurance. If your plan requires a premium, follow the insurer's instructions for paying the first one directly to the insurance company.
Save the enrollment confirmation and verify the effective date with the insurer if anything is unclear. Outside Open Enrollment, you generally need a qualifying Special Enrollment Period to enroll in Marketplace coverage; Medicaid and CHIP applications can be made year-round. HealthCare.gov provides official application assistance if your situation needs additional help.
Ready to compare your options?
Enter your ZIP code, review available plans and continue to the application provider when eligible. Comparing plans or starting an application does not activate coverage.
