You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We had the service for my mom through Failla and everything was just perfect. The staff members were very compassionate and they assisted us with thinking of all the details during a difficult time. The McKnight family has extensive experience in planning funeral services and it really comes through in their coordination of such an event. I can't recommend Failla enough.”

“There truly couldn't have been a more perfect way to say goodbye to my father. Failla-McKnight Memorial Home did an amazing job. I was unsure how he would look at the final viewing, but when the visitation day came, I was blown away. They did an INCREDIBLE job. My father looked like he was comfortable and resting peacefully in a very happy place. I'm so happy for this part because I wanted the rest of the family and his friends to see him in the best possible way as we all paid our respects. Everyone at the home was so professional and caring from the very beginning all the way to the end of the process. They even helped me with getting his family around the world involved, which included streaming some of the service to them and with translations on a few of the prayer cards. We had a lot of guests and Failla-McKnight has it's own parking lot which was very convenient for everyone. The McKnight family and their staff were always accessible through out this difficult time. They were also extremely supportive as if they were part of our very own family. We can't thank you all enough. I know my father is also appreciative. We love you dad. May you Rest in peace!”

“Having lived in Hoboken my whole life I have unfortunately been to quite a few services at Failla Funeral Home. They have all been fine and somber with nothing much to report. It wasn't until I attended a mass for a recently deceased friend that I felt compelled to write this review. Mr. John McKnight is the Funeral Director and Owner of Failla and in my opinion is completely saccharine and wildly inconsiderate. At the service I attended, Mr. McKnight advised those attending to turn off our cell phones. As not to be rude, we all obliged. Mr. McKnight must have thought he was exempt from his own request as his cell phone obnoxiously and loudly rang not once, but on two separate occasions during the mass. To make things better, he picked up the calls while still in the church!!!!! Not only that, but he was chatting with his colleague and doing paperwork in the back pew throughout the entire mass. Astoundingly inconsiderate and rude!!! Funerals and funeral masses are one of those events that you don't get too many chances at. Mr. McKnight completely ruined the mass for me and disrespected the memory of my dead friend. No apology for doing so either. I would not recommend Failla Memorial Home...even to the dead. It is clearly run by someone who just doesn't care.”
