You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I would like to preface this review that the receptionists and Alec are wonderful employees at this location, and this review does not imply their expertise and ability whatsoever. However, I would never recommend this location, there are many other Dignity Memorial locations across Metro that would treat you better. My father died unexpectedly, and even though I went through the pre-planning process for him a few days before his death, there were complications with the contract every single step. We were never informed of when his body was picked up, and had to call numerous times for confirmation from our funeral director. We called repeatedly for an update on his death certificates, until finally the funeral director admitted that had been in her office for a couple days. Our funeral director even admitted that she had only been apart of this location for "a couple months" before she was assigned as our director. They attempted to charge us over $4,000 extra by duplicating many things on our contract (which had already been repeatedly revised due to their own errors), that we ourselves had to catch, with our funeral director telling us directly that she did not know how to properly work the contract software. Many times our director was unable to fully explain what each and every charge meant and stood for. Getting in contact with our director was always a hassle, she never was in office nor answered her phone line, only replying to emails every so often. Even in-person meetings were a hassle, she would get assistance from the other director or employees at the funeral home during these meetings to answer our questions as she did not know the answer. My father was a veteran, which we expressed his pride in being one to her, and all we received was his flag in a Dignity Memorial bag. We received more information and answers to our questions from the receptionists than her. On the day of my father's service, she informed us that as of the end of the service time, she would no longer be working with Floral Hills. My father's service was not decorated, only blue table runners and electric candles that were scattered around did not have batteries, and no Navy theme that we HAD CHOSEN AND REVIEWED WITH THE DIRECTOR WEEKS PRIOR was implemented at his service. The director had to hastily print out a visitor book DURING his service, and his prayer cards that cost $200 were so small the print is blurry, unreadable, and the cards were not laminated as stated in his service package. Even now I still have employees from Floral Hills calling my personal phone number to set up pre-planning arrangements for myself, even though I never expressed that desire, and we have personally informed the funeral home of our hasty treatment that we received from my father's death. The only excuse and explanation we were given was "January is our busiest time".”

“Grave Desecration and Breach of Trust by Floral Hill Cemetery, GA My family is devastated by the recent incident at Floral Hill Cemetery in Georgia. We paid $20,000 for my mother's grave, with the expectation that her resting place would be cared for with the utmost respect. However, a cemetery vehicle was driven directly over her grave, causing significant damage and violating the sanctity of her burial site. This profound act of disrespect has stolen the peace we intended for her and inflicted further pain upon our grieving family. We relied on Floral Hill Cemetery to provide a secure and peaceful resting place, and they have failed us completely.”

“Both Floral Hills Representatives, Dwight Gardner and Alec S. were knowledgeable, professional and compassionate throughout our interactions. I’m grateful for the support during this difficult period for our family.”
