You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Staff were nice but I am vastly unimpressed with my dogs cremation and follow up. In hindsight I should have done more research before dropping him off. You fill out a form stating what services you want done ie. Charm, urn-an optional engraving, hair clipping, a paw impression. I asked for a paw impression and an engraved urn. I was told that it would take about 72ish hours for the whole process. Something like 4 or 5 days later I called and was told it was taking longer for the engraved urn to ship. No big deal. Another 2 or 3 days later my wife gets a call saying he was good for pick up. I picked him up the next day and the staff walked me through it. Truthfully my attention was lacking and I was more impressed that I got a certificate of authenticity for his ashes than anything else. When I got home I noticed the urn is a glorified coffee can (it literally says tin on the bottom) I recieved an engraved charm and hairclipping with the paw impression, which was actually done very well. I could have been a better client but honestly at this point its just not worth the continuing effort. Ill buy a different urn off Amazon, get it engraved or attach my dogs old tags and go from there.”

“Before our Mother passed away, she had prearranged her services with Lee Funeral Home. This took care of making so many decisions. She passed away out of state and Lee’s took care of contacting a local funeral home to keep her until Lee’s was able to transport her the next day. Tina kept us informed with every step of the way. Tina and her staff were very empathetic and the process was made so much easier with her arranging everything. Tina made my mom look so beautiful for her viewing and we were very pleased. Lee’s reached out to me a couple of weeks later to see how we were doing and if there was anything that they could help us with. I plan on using Lee’s when needed and would highly recommend them.”

“Lee Funeral home and Tina were so easy to work with. We appreciated their compassion and support during the difficult time. The staff was very helpful and responsive during the planning process. The funeral home offered a comfortable place to have visitors for my mom’s services.”
