You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Really disappointed in the lawncare. My mom was interred in a garden towards the back in May and the lawncare is terrible. It seems they keep the front very manicured as an advertisement and the back part is neglected. I’m very disappointed we chose to inter my mom here. Grass and weeds are growing over headstones in her area; which is the Founders Section. Also, one headstone in the urn garden has sunk down on one side. Also, the items some people put out is against policy and makes the cemetery look junky!”

“Well I’m so mad at this place. For more than 25 years the deadline for removal of all Christmas decorations was Feb 1. This year they changed it to Jan 1, with limited signage (I didn’t see any signs stating the change). They trashed my decoration which I spend good money on and had precious laminated photos. Just trashed it. Why didn’t they let everyone know a better way. Or at least make it deadline gradual cuts back. No they took a whole month away. This pisses me off and tells me the management of that place doesn’t care once they put your loved one in the ground and they have all that money the receive for the funeral/burial:”. No more using them for any future funeral/burial! So sad and I’m so pissed!!!”

“Mount Olivet at 2301 N. Sylvania Avenue, is labeled as "Fort Worth's most beutiful and convenient perpetual care cemetery." It was established in 1907. While visiting this place the other day, i saw some people enjoying a nice stroll in the 130 acres park-like setting, littered with crypts, musoleum, monuments and trees. I believe that visiting the resting place of a loved one bring peace to our soul and may be good therapy. We can then realize that sooner or later we too have to go and maybe unexpectedly; that we can not bring anything with us except that which we have given away.”
