You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We ordered our stone in 2021. We have been told it was in Connecticut. It was never there when we went to the business. There have been dozens of calls and text messages. Eric R never responds. We keep getting lied to when we do reach someone. At this point, we believe this business operates under deceiving and deceptive practices. We have filed a complaint with the attorney general after they declined to provide the refund of our deposit when requested.”

“My mother passed away and had pre paid to have her date of death engraved on her foot stone. All the other information was there. I phoned and spoke to some man who told me he would not honor the contract. He had bought the assets but not the liability from giordano bros. and there fore is not responsible. He would be happy to charge to do the engraving but after reading all the horrible negative reviews I decided to go somewhere else who by the way was cheaper. This is a lesson to reconsider pre paying for services that may occur years later. My mother contracted in 2005 and passed this year. This business obviously operates by stealing peoples money and somehow getting away with it. We are fortunate that our job was minor in comparison to others situations. Not sure how they stay in business but buyer beware!!! Negative 1star!!!”

“Buyer beware. This is a fraudulent business preying on people, especially the elderly such as my mother. She put a deposit down for my father's headstone in June of 2022 and we still have no idea of when it will be completed. No one answers the phone at the office and even the presumed owner Eric doesn't reach back to you on his cell phone. We have to drive 40 minutes to the office and all we get are excuses and false estimates of completion. We have never had a worse experience with a business. This place does an excellent job of increasing stress to a family during a time of grief. The owner should go back to school to learn how to run a business efficiently or sell to someone more competent. Also love the responses from the owner with other Google Reviews! Unapologetic and accusatory”
