You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Formal Complaint / Review Regarding Blake-Lamb Funeral Home Staff Involved: Brittany (Manager), Adam (Funeral Director), Alicia (Staff) We, as a grieving family, are extremely disappointed and heartbroken by the treatment we received from Blake-Lamb Funeral Home during the most painful time in our lives—the loss of our beloved brother in December 2024. After his passing, we had Blake-Lamb Funeral Home pick up his body from the residence, and we met with Adam, the funeral director, shortly after to make arrangements. Adam confirmed the insurance and assured us everything was in place. However, a few days later, our brother’s estranged wife, who had not been a part of his life, contacted the funeral home claiming rights to his remains and requested that his body be removed so she can have him cremated. From that point on, everything fell apart. Brittany, the manager, informed us that they were placing all plans on hold due to contact with the estranged wife's attorney. Brittany also told us that this woman had threatened the staff in person—yet the funeral home took no apparent steps to protect the family’s interests or the integrity of our brother’s care. Despite being in the midst of intense grief, we cooperated fully with everything asked of us. We were honest, patient, and humble, but were met with broken communication, shifting stories, and outright avoidance. At one point, Brittany admitted she had not spoken with the attorney, contradicting her earlier claims. She then told us we would need to obtain our own legal representation—which we eventually had to do. She assured us there would be no charge for holding our brother’s body, but what we didn’t know until much later was that he had not been embalmed and had been kept in cold storage for over five months (from December to May). During this time, we were regularly ignored—our calls went unanswered, and when we did reach someone, Alicia would relay that no one was available. Eventually, Alicia also became rude and dismissive, treating us as if we were a burden for simply seeking information about our loved one. They made us sign a document that stated what we were about to see would be traumatizing. It wasn’t until we fought hard to see our brother’s body that we were finally allowed to do so. What we saw was traumatizing: he was double-bagged, his skin was peeling and appeared to have mold, and a rubber hand had been used in place of his own. The condition of his body was horrifying and deeply disrespectful. Ultimately, we had to take legal action. We went to court and won the right to proceed with his services. We were finally able to lay him to rest on May 19, 2025—nearly half a year after his death. This experience has left our family emotionally scarred. The lack of compassion, transparency, and professionalism from Blake-Lamb Funeral Home is inexcusable. We entrusted them with our brother’s care and were instead met with neglect, miscommunication, and emotional distress during a time when support and dignity were most needed. We will never use or recommend Blake-Lamb Funeral Home to anyone. No family should ever have to endure what we went through.”
