You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Very beautiful facility, and very caring staff. Not an easy choice to place a loved one here, but the staff take very great care of your loved ones. The second day of me coming to visit, staff I don’t remember meeting knew exactly who I was and who I was coming to visit. My grandfather was very well taken care of and every day his hair was combed back, and his blankets tucked in. He even had peaceful music and his favorite television shows on in the background while he slept through his time there. The nurses brought him some chocolate and anything he had asked for was brought very quickly. They even allowed his dog to come and see him before he passed. Though we were there for less than three days, the staff was amazing and I am so thankful that we went with this facility in my grandfathers final moments.”

“I would like to begin by saying this place took very good care of my father that passed on November 11 , 2025 …. The day prior to that there was a cna there by the name of Netta from the beginning my father had a problem with her …. One night I sat up in my bed and the spirit spoke to me I text my sister to let her know something wasn’t right about her ….. She was angry rough didn’t want the family in the room …… she told me one day she had been chastened at work about something she was mad …. On the day prior to my father’s passing that Tuesday she bath my father he was at the end of life … she also closely shaved him the Tamil was waiting for her to get done in another room and she let us know she was done .. the first thing the family saw was my fathers right ear was totally swollen from the inside out and bleeding it was horrific ….. my fathers eyes were opened and he was traumatized he couldn’t talk but no words he was trying to tell us something but couldn’t ….. There was a meeting and we assumed there would be a resolution quickly .. my sister and I went back today to find out as of November the 18 she is still there …. I’m sure my father is not the first and won’t be the last as long as she is there……it’s been hard for us to move on because of this …. If you decide to admit your loved one there and NETTA is still there …. Please be very diligent if she comes in contact with your loved one….”

“Horrible experience during a horrible time. The nurse who contacted me to tell me my loved one's end of life was near was insensitive, rude, and went as far as saying "how bad" he looked. Upon arrival, there was no one at the front desk to show me what to do or where to go. Not only is that a safety concern for the patients and their families, but after receiving a call to tell you to "come quick", not knowing where to go is even more upsetting. When I finally found the room, the same nurse that called me was assigned to my loved one, and in in his room. Not only was it an unpleasant greeting, but argued with me loudly in his room mentioning my "heightened emotions" being linked to my pregnancy, and not the actual situation I was currently facing. As I'm regaining my composure, I go to hold my loved one's hand in his final moments, and realized the identifying name band had the wrong name on it. Not only does that further prove their unorganization, but how hurtful it was to realize how much of "just a number" he was to them. 10/10 do not recommend. I wish I had made the choice to just keep him in the hospital, and not try and move him to a "more comfortable place" that turned out to be a nightmare.”
