You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“The staff, especially Andrea, Charles, Jackie and Ms. Diane were phenomenal from beginning to end during the scheduling and preparation for my Aunt Alma Jean Ditto’s Homegoing Service. They were professional, efficient and caring during our difficult time and they went out of their way to provide the utmost care without any hesitation. The staff at both, the Homegoing and Burial were without a doubt; exceptional. I will be referring them to others that may be in need of their services and I give them a rating of more than five stars. To the staff at Gregory W. Spencer Funeral Directors, keep up the good work. Thanks again from the Thomas and Ditto family.”

“We had my cousin funeral today at our Church and let me just say, the staff that was there for Spencer's funeral home was some of the most unprofessional people that I've seen at a funeral. When a video was placing of the deceased singing a song, they were laughing at the video and dancing, playing like they were shouting, and one started popping their butt while dancing as well. They were rude and very tacky to the visitors. One guy started talking about my Pastor to me, then started talking about me with me standing there. Let's no talk about the nasty attitudes that were displayed during the whole duration of her services. I will not EVER want them to do anything of my family EVER again. The name really meant something, but it was truly disgraced on today. Not happy at all. Some things shouldn't be. Professionalism is something that needs to be taught! Today and not tomorrow.”

“Thanks to the entire staff at Gregory W Spencer Funeral Directors. I received exceptional service from each TEAM member at this establishment. Although my heart is grieved due to the passing of my mother, your love and kindness has made my emotional journey a little less painful. I'm GRATEFUL to have been under the direction of such distinguished team of professionals. Blessings to each of you!!!”
