You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“We had a very positive experience with Gallant Funeral Home during a difficult time for our family. This was our first time going through something like this, and they helped make the process as smooth as possible. The staff was professional, kind, and respectful throughout the entire process. They answered all of our questions and guided us through each step, which made things much easier for our family. Everything was handled smoothly, and we truly appreciated how comfortable they made us feel while making arrangements. Their care and professionalism meant a great deal to us during such a hard time. We are very grateful for the support we received from Gallant Funeral Home and would highly recommend their services to others.”

“I personally WOULD NOT recommend this funeral home, their facility, or their services. Staff isn't very friendly. Most of them just stood around and stared at guests with scowls on their faces. Their facility is far too small for average to larger sized funerals, and their location is terrible in a busy business / residential area. Because of the small size of their facility, many guests were left standing in a very long line outside the building in the cold weather for well over an hour! That's not good when almost half of those guests were elderly, and one of the worst cases of Flu in many years is running rampant in our community! The microphone and sound system is too weak and is of very poor quality. You could barely hear some of those who spoke during the service. Only the ones who almost ate the microphone could be heard throughout the room. The parking lot was poorly laid out, and the parking spaces are on the smaller side. Some people can't drive or park their vehicles very well, and a poorly designed parking lot with smaller spaces makes it much worse! As far as all the controversy over their planned building of their own crematorium on that small property, I too would do anything and everything in my power to put a stop to it, if I lived in that neighborhood! Other businesses and residential homes are far too close to their property for that kind of facility to be built and operated! There are MANY dangers that come with operating a crematory. You definitely DO NOT want to expose the public to those dangers in such close proximity! Anyone who would even consider building and operating a crematory in that neighborhood should lose their business and funeral licenses permanently... All in all, I strongly suggest going elsewhere for funeral services in the Fayetteville Tennessee area...”

“They have no respect for the deceased, if someone comes up there and has their funeral arrangements set the way they want it. The family should not be able to come in and change it. They just see dollar signs. The deceased should have been informed that his family could change things , he would have went and got a letter drawn with a lawyer where it could have not been changed!”
