You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“My sister was buried here and someone elses grave stone is on top of her where her casket is. So wrong. You pay to have a loved one buried there and they place someone else's grave stone on top of her burial area. When I received a call from Lori, she followed up by going to the gravesite and sent me the current picture. Thank you for the prompt follow up. I apologize for my first review and am releived to know the first review was because of a picture sent to me with a bad angle that was not accurate.”

“When we placed our father in the cemetery it was under previous ownership and met the highest standards a family could reasonably expect. The previous management and staff went out of their way to serve families and the grounds/grave sites were well manicured. The current ownership presents outcomes that I consider to be a we really don’t care about how the grounds and grave sites look attitude/practice. During my 9 September 2023 visit I observed sloppy grounds keeping, or a lack of attention to details. This was especially evident at the back section by the woods where the large tree used to be. These examples include sinking headstone foundations, overgrown grass around many headstones, and a failure to dress up the large bare spot where the previously mentioned tree was located. This, I believe, is an inexcusable and embarrassing reflection on management, the corporation, and what used to be an outstanding property. Our family looks forward to Greenlawn Memorial Park returning to the high standards that placed it among the top cemeteries in the Fort Wayne area. Doing so is not an unreasonable expectation. Thank you, Ed Allen Streetsboro, Ohio Follow up to previous comment. Within 48 hours of expressing my concerns, I received a call from Lori Sheipline, Location Manager. By the close of business on the day of our discussion the matter was addressed. Lori sent pictures of the area and the following report of corrective action: “ Good Afternoon Ed, It was nice to speak with you. Sorry again that it was under the circumstance of a negative google review. I did bring your concerns to the attention of the Grounds Superintendent and his staff right away. Like I said on our call the seed and straw mats had been placed Tuesday before I’d seen your review. Today the Grounds Superintendent met me out in block 21 to discuss your concerns. They worked on the area right away. I did go out and verify personally on how things looked out there. I hope you feel these pictures show that we’ve worked on rectifying your concern. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any additional questions.” I believe the followup and pictures represent an appropriate response to the concerns presented. Thank you for your timely response! Ed”

“I visit my Grandparents grave annually. Last year there was a problem with the vase, which is attached to the headstone. I couldn't reach anyone in person while I was in town but finally did by phone. I explained the problem and was assured it would be fixed. I never had a problem in the past when there had a problem, so to say I was upset when I got to the gravesite this year and saw that nothing had been done, wouldn't come close to describing how I felt. Today I actually spoke with a man, I believe his name is John, I explained the problem and he attempted to contact maintenance. When he couldn't reach them, he personally came to the gravesite with some tools to see if he could temporarily fix the situation so that I could leave the flowers for my grandparents. Long story short, he was unable to fix it so he went to see if he could find a vase I could place the flowers in. What he found was the maintenance guys who came out and REPLACED the broken vase while we were there!! Thank you so much for this service!!!”
