You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
“Do you offer payment plans?”
Many funeral homes allow you to spread the cost over time. Ask about down payments, terms, and financing options.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

The preparation of the loved one was handled with pride, confidence and professionalism. I recommend any and everyone in need of funeral services in the area to contact this business. Thank you Mr. Victor G. Byas, Sr. and staff for your long years of service and care for my family members' burial needs.”

“On February 28, 2023 I traveled to Indianola, Mississippi to pay my respects to my former classmate. Not sure of the exact location of the funeral services, I called this establishment and provided the name of the deceased. I was then informed that there wasn't a funeral service of the person that I in question about. I then asked the employee for the location of the church where the funeral services maybe be held, just in case there was an oversight on her part. I then gave her the name of the church and her reply to me was "that it was none of their concern" being stunned by her reply. I asked if she would repeat her reply and that she did. I then stated to her that I felt her comment/reply was very unprofessional and that I would contact her Supervisor or Ms. Paula Byas to report for her rude conduct and she did not provide any customer service. After contacting the Sunflower County Sheriff Department, I was provided with the requested information of the church location only to my discover that the funeral services for my beloved Classmate was entrusted to Byas Funeral Home and at the church in question. I did report this incident to one of the Byas funeral directors in charge and as of this time I have not received a call of the outcome of my experience of this matter. Thank God I'm not a paying policy customer of this place of business. Poor service and no courtesy and no staff professionalism.”

“Thanks to the Byas family and their staff for their assistance during our time of loss. Our Family and the Byas family have been connected for years. The connection has always been one closer to family than friends. After being gone from the Delta area for over 45 years it's glad to know the mutual connection is still one of family. Frank Leach”
