You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“I know my parents are in the "poor" section but this is unacceptable. I understand this is on the other side of the fence, but with all the money this place makes you would at least hope for a privacy fence to be placed or the very least call the city every day. I counted 12 campsites with trash everywhere. If I had the means, I would move my parents out of there”

“Yesenia did a great job helping with my mother’s service! She was great helping with details that I wouldn’t have thought of. She’s a great communicator and always worked with a smile! At times like this a smile goes a long way and she didn’t make me feel like I was a burden to her. Her funeral director colleagues was also very helpful when Yesenia was not available. I honestly could see the team work at Calvary Hill! Thanks again Yesenia! Mom’s service was great and all because of your assistance!!”

“Positives: Responsive for the first meeting. Nice to have the same venue for Mass and reception following. The urn selection was very good. The package with the photo turned into a framed portrait was exceptional. Food for reception was excellent. The not so positive: The coordinator I worked with didn’t followup to get the death certificate until I asked about it days later. When I returned the office’s calls to pay I had to leave another message, and get another callback. Very inefficient. After the service they removed the cards from each of the arrangements forcing me to correlate them again at home. At the service the way they had guests come in not everyone signed the guest book. They didn’t bring the guest book to the reception so as to give another opportunity for all guests to sign. Lastly when things were bumpy along the way the coordinator assigned Never said “I’m sorry”. Overall I’d recommend others consider going elsewhere if you want a less stressful experience for a memorial service.”
