You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“It was a shock and a sorrowful time when my wife, Kay, passed away. The recommendation that I contact Horan & McConaty was a very good thing at a bad time. Jolene, Larissa, and others at the Centennial location were wonderful. After cremation we wanted a celebration of life with family, friends, and neighbors. The arrangements made by Jolene could not have gone better. I did not keep the names of the ladies that handled the catering, but they also were an ideal choice. I had nothing but praise for this gathering from the people who were there. Thank you Jolene and Larissa for your caring, professional, and kind help with final arrangements for the love of my life.”

“This funeral home is not worthy of any stars. They have no interest in the well being of the family. They are owned by Park Lawn which is ran by a bunch of lawyers out of Texas and Canada. Plus, CO has the worst reputation in the funeral industry because nobody is licensed, certified or educated on what they are doing! And also, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SHOW THEM YOUR LOVED ONES WILL!!!!!!!”

“Upon the death of a family member, Horan an McConaty in Highlands Ranch was engaged to cremate the body. The company told us that the process would take about 1 week to 10 days. After the 10 days we received a call that the ashes were ready to be picked up along with death certificates, etc. When we arrived, we waited about half an hour, then were notified that the remains were not there and the body was still across town at the crematorium but had not yet been cremated. No time as to when they would be available for pick up was given other than "soon".. Several days later, they did call that the ashes were finally at the location and they did have the decency to bring them to the house. We were told the "director" ( of the company? of the location?) would call but they never did. All of this was, in my opinion, extremely unprofessional and only served to make a very difficult time even more stressful. Additionally, the charge for this was almost twice as much as several other cremation services in the Denver area charge for similar or more extensive services. To give them their due, the building is nicely kept, but that is of little concern in light of the rest of the experience. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this business and would suggest investigating any other funeral home. Update: After this review was written, Horan & McConaty contacted our family. They expressed their apologies, and explained what they believed had happen and what mistakes they believed were made, as well as steps they would investigate to make sure such things did not happen again to another family. The apology seemed very sincere and a portion of the charges were returned. At this point, I feel they have tried their best to correct and make amends for the incident. I believe that when a problem happens with a business and they do their utmost to make it right, it probably shows the character and ethical orientation better than if nothing had gone wrong in the first place. Therefore, given all this I would withdraw my negative recommendation and commend them for the way they handled this. Mistakes can happen-- it's how and what you do to correct them that matters. Thank you Horan and McConaty and especially Catherine.”
