You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“Chaplain Crum and all Honor Guard Members, (Marine Corps League) My dad’s service was held at 11 a.m. on February 27th at Pikes Peak National Cemetery. No words could ever express the depth of our gratitude for the honor you gave to my father and to our family. Everyone in attendance was in absolute awe of the ceremony. We had several Marines present, including my uncle, and each of them said they had never witnessed a service as complete, precise, and dignified as the one you provided. Your professionalism, respect, and attention to detail created a moment none of us will ever forget. The Cemetery Director was exactly like the Marine Corps League, he was superb. Much thanks to all there and the staff inside the building.”

“Beautiful location! So honoring with great views of pikes peak! I see many negative reviews about the grounds having weeds and struggled ground maintenance. I would disagree. Please see below and my posted pictures for further detail. In the cemetery’s defense I would consider the following: 1. Many of the burial sites are brand new and are in the process of being seeded. The grounds that are seeded around the grave stones are very well maintained (see photos) 2. There is some surrounding landscape approaching the cemetery that has Colorado prairie vegetation and brush…the cemetery is located in Colorado… 3. My father in law was interred here. The ceremony included a volunteer preacher and Fort Carson honor guard with flag folding ceremony (no 21 gun salute…I think due to forest fire restrictions). All aspects of the ceremony were very professional and honoring. 4. Lastly, the cemetery literally rests underneath the Peterson VFR pattern. Pretty honoring, in my opinion, especially for those USAF, USSF, and USA veterans! Would highly recommend this location.”

“I cycled out here one day not only to have a longer ride than usual but also because I wanted to check it out and give my respect. It was a nice 18 mile round trip, however the cemetery was the high point of the trip. Something a little extra sad about that day was the two lines of cars. I passed one line on my way in as it was leaving. The second arrived just after I did. Pikes Peak National Cemetery is a beatififul tribute to America's fallen heroes. There are memorial markers for all the branches of the military. There are memorials to America's recent wars. There are open-air shelters so graveside services can be held out of the worst of the weather. Along with traditional grave sites there are rembrance walls for cremated remains and an area for non-traditional burial. The road through the cemetery is a big loop. There are parking loops at the shelters for the processional. There is room enough to park on both sides and leave room to drive down the middle. This is a relatively new cemetery so the lawns are a work in progress. The grass that is in existence there is green and well-kept. The grave sites are well maintained. The American flag, flags for the services, and the POW-MIA flag all flew proudly in the prairie wind. Next Memorial Day roll on out there and pay your respects to those who served.”
