You're not expected to know this. These questions help you compare and avoid surprises.
“Can I see your General Price List?”
Federal law (FTC Funeral Rule) requires them to give you itemized pricing. You have every right to ask.
“Do you accept insurance assignment?”
This means they bill the insurance company directly. You don't pay thousands upfront and wait to be reimbursed.
“What's included vs. what's extra?”
Packages may not include everything. Ask about the casket, embalming, transportation, facility fees, and death certificate copies.
Know Your Rights
The FTC Funeral Rule protects you. Every funeral home must provide an itemized General Price List if you ask — in person or over the phone. You are never required to buy a package and can choose services individually. You also have the right to use a casket purchased elsewhere.

“When the time came to complete the final arrangements for my mom, Return Home was prompt, professional, respectful, and empathetic from start to finish. Their assistance in planning was well organized and thoughtful, and immensely helpful in keeping track of all the details and choices during such a difficult time. I am deeply grateful for their patience, support and attention to detail before, during and after. Jake and Brie went above and beyond, which provided great comfort to me and my family. I have recommended them to all my estate planning clients and now having gone through the process of being a customer of Return Home, I can’t recommend them enough.”

“My mom chose to be terracomposted, and Return Home, when we spoke about her future death in 2020. She originally thought about a plot in a cemetery, so I could visit. I asked her, "Did you visit your parents' graves, because I know where they are buried, and you didn't take me." She said, "No." I said, "I won't be visiting you either. It's not how I will honor you or remember you." But she liked the idea of being in my garden where her roses will grow and be loved all of us. Return Home was easy to work with, and easy to book years in advance. A mandatory insurance is necessary, which RH facilitated. After her death in late 2025, at 9:30PM on a Sunday, we made the call at 10PM from her Adult Family Home. Her remains were picked up at about 12:15 AM, along with a rose to be composted with her. The office then communicated and asked questions, offered emotional support, sent a nice note and gift, and kept us informed of the process. We chose to have this done without our input/placement of her body into the vessel, but know she's moving along the process with regular email updates. RH has been the easy part of her death. Pleasant to deal with and professional. I am glad she chose to something less toxic and more natural way to die. We are choosing to take her soil--which isn't mandatory. I love she will be in my flower garden and at my sister's too.”

“Return home felt like a partner in my journey in planning for and providing kind, compassionate care for the final journey for my loved one. They went out of their way to educate and support me in this process. The facility is well run and a beautiful place to hold the laying in ceremony. I have several friends who were moved to use them for their end of life wishes, after touring here.”
